Building a Better My: What Can My.IllinoisState.edu Do for You? (State Farm Hall of Business 139)

In the past few years, new systems have been implemented at a rapid pace across campus and user experience has suffered. Recognizing this, University Vice-Presidents requested a recommendation for a single Enterprise Portal for the institution. My.IllinoisState was chosen as that platform, and key improvements for faculty and students were implemented during Spring 2017 semester with more exciting features coming up soon.

This session will not only be an opportunity to showcase those changes, but more importantly, to open up conversations about how to build a better portal and the challenges we’ll face in crafting an optimal digital experience for you. A few years ago we had one of the best University portals and today we have the talent, support, and the collaboration channels to make it even better. Join us and bring your questions and ideas as we focus on creating a better user experience for all audiences.

Modernize Your Ops and Gain Efficiency by Automating with Ansible (State Farm Hall of Business 149)

  • Are you responsible for provisioning physical servers, virtual servers, containers, or networking equipment?
  • Are you responsible for deploying, configuring, and administering applications?
  • Do you find yourself repeating the similar actions when providing support or request fulfillment?
  • Do you need to make sure your members of your team can handle your duties when you're away?
  • Are you responsible for a team that does any of the above?

If any of the above applies to you then join us in this session where we will touch on DevOps concepts and demonstrate how Ansible can be used provide standardized automation across your operations team to gain efficiency in many different areas. We will also touch on how you can automate complex tasks which can be passed off to other staff members or units for execution in a safe and secure fashion.

Writing software and using version control systems is no longer just for software development teams. In the modern IT world just about everything we touch is software and operations teams responsible for applications, systems, networking, and general support can benefit greatly by adopting these concepts without the need to be a full blown developer.
