CIT Extension (CITx)

CITx is a half-day extension event connected to the Continuous Improvement in Technology (CIT) conference held in the Fall and Spring semesters. The goal of CITx is to empower Illinois State's IT professionals by providing them the latest IT news from around campus, opportunities for social networking with their colleagues, and collaborative brainstorming on current topics.

The Spring 2022 CITx event was held both in person at the State Farm Hall of Business and virtually on Zoom, on Friday, April 8, 2022.

Moving to a new version of Windows is a major effort. Join us in this session to share knowledge and ideas about the new version and what it means for faculty and staff computers, labs, and consumer devices.

  • Liam Doherty
    Liam Doherty is the Service Manager at TechZone, responsible for supporting consumer and enterprise computing devices of the ISU community since 2006.

  • Jim Johnson
    Jim is a Lead Systems Engineer for the Information Security Office in Tech Solutions. He is responsible for the design, configuration, and management of desktop operating environments and configuration management tools.

  • Jason Ross
    Jason is the Workstation Administrator for the College of Business. He is responsible for management and security of over 700 COB devices as well as technology support for College of Business faculty and staff.

Connecting in a Hybrid World - SFHB 370

Our new world of work includes IT staff working fully on site, fully remote and/or somewhere in between. Our customers and vendor partners are doing the same. In this session, we will share our strategies for collaboration and communication with colleagues and customers, no matter where we are.

  • Todd Smoak
    Todd Smoak is an Executive Director in Technology Solutions (who having seen the lit beacons answered the call for a co-presenter). Todd also previously worked remotely from 2005-2008 as a Project Manager so the virtual workspace isn't new, just evolving with the aid of improved technology.

  • Paul Unsbee
    Paul Unsbee is the Director of Library IT Services at Milner Library and bow tie connoisseur. He has worked in the field of information technology at Illinois State University for 20+ years, coming to the university in '00 as an undergraduate student and has served in various roles with concentrations in customer service, endpoint support, server administration and architecture, user experience, project management, and administration. Paul is an alumnus of Illinois State University, having earned a B.S. in Technology (2004) and M.S. in Technology with focuses on training and development and project management (2015).

Good Vibes Only: Things from the Pandemic We Plan to Keep - SFHB 369

Facilitated by Bill Hamann, Craig Jackson and Mike Regilio

We’ve all learned a lot over the past few years and grown in ways we did not expect. Let’s talk about the good things that resulted from the pandemic. What lessons did you learn that will inform how you work in the future? What improvements came out of the rapid change? Please come prepared to share your experiences and ideas in this positive pandemic conversation.

  • Bill Hamann
    Bill currently serves as the Senior Assistant Director for Student Affairs Information Technology (SAIT). He was hired as a microcomputer support specialist for the Bone Student Center in 1998, graduated with a degree in applied computer science from ISU in 2000, but stayed on at the university and has served in a variety of IT positions within the division of Student Affairs. Bill has worked on multi-departmental IT teams that were instrumental in bringing virtualization and a more modern email system to campus. He is an avid PowerShell proponent/user to automate and truly enjoys working with others to solve complex IT problems.

  • Craig Jackson
    Craig Jackson is the Director of ION (Infrastructure, Operations, & Networking) for Technology Solutions. Craig has been with ISU since December, 2016, arriving from the University of Illinois system where he worked for several years is various IT support and leadership roles at the academic and campus levels. I started as a endpoint support consultant, lead an academic support center for the Colleges of Liberal Arts & Sciences at UIUC and UIC. For the University of Illinois system, he was responsible for identifying collaborations across the campuses. Craig received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business & Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh, and his Master’s in Education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

  • Mike Regilio
    Mike Regilio is the Director of the College of Arts & Sciences Information Technology (CAS-IT) office and has worked at Illinois State since 2007. He received his Bachelor's degree in Communication and Master's degree in Project Management and Training and Development, both from Illinois State University. He has worked for an I.T. consulting firm in the Chicago Loop, been the I.T. Manager for a multi-location luxury-vehicle automotive group, provided educational technology support for the Illinois State University School of Communication, taught an introductory web design course, and owned multiple businesses.
